A Book, a Bike Ride and a Party

Hey all! Wanted to let you know about a few things. First of all I am feeling great, enjoying (and trying to figure out) fatherhood and re-assimilating into the world. All of my monthly tests have been clean and I just graduated to bi-monthly testing which is an exciting milestone to pass!

I published a book of poetry! Due in large part to the encouragement and support of you all when I posted some of my poetry here – so thank you for the momentum. And a big thanks to my collaborators: Kate Diago (illustrator), Mary Tautin Moloney (editor) and Amber Hares (designer). You can learn more about the book and where to buy it here: http://www.bloombook.org  (if you do end up buying it on Amazon, and you have the time/inclination, a review on there is worth it’s weight in gold…  …assuming it’s not a total pan :)

I am raising money with some friends again this year as part of Cycle For Survival. 100% of contributions go to fund laboratory and clinical research for rare cancers at Sloan Kettering (where the rubber really hits the road). 40% of us will unfortunately get cancer in our lifetimes and 50% of that will be rare cancers. Rare cancers are proportionally underfunded so these fundraising efforts are critical. This week, Bootsoft is matching contributions dollar for dollar so if you give now your $25 magically becomes $50, $50 becomes $100 and $100 becomes $200! Our team has raised almost $23,000 so far (thank you to everyone who has contributed), help us get to $30K!  http://mskcc.convio.net/goto/jayerickson

…and if you are in NYC this weekend please join us at a fundraising / book release party from 6-9pm this Saturday in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Finally, I will leave you with the face of the little girl who has been so much a part of our journey of the last 18 months. That light in her eyes? That’s the thing at the end of the tunnel.

    Jay!

Juniper is a doll! Gorgeous. We’re all embracing imminent Spring. I’m so glad you’re doing well. I would’ve come last Saturday but we were in Chicago. I will look at the book! Really great. Chris has scans at end of this month and had a good checkup last week. It’s strange to go to Sloan, where not long ago we spent excruciating hours and days, now as sometime-visitors. Like a hand of salt thrown in your half-year; making everything more vivid.

We’ll come up soon. I need a look at this lovely lady.

    Love. Lauren

  2. Juniper is much too beautiful for her age. I predict that Jay’s Very Conservative Streak, hitherto unknown to the universe, will come out in its fullness when Ms. Juniper turns 16 (or, 15, or, 14, or 13, or, ?)!

  3. Real happy to be able to have all those wonderful poems, in my hand and to be read at my leisure.
    And……..Juniper is fantablous!!!
    Love from the Gieseckes

  4. What amazing accomplishments all around! Juniper is certainly the jewel in the crown! Am so thrilled about it all!

  5. Juniper is one beautiful light at the end of the tunnel
